The post of Adjutant General was first created by the Legislative Council of the Territory on February 1, 1832 (Ch. 695, Laws) and continued into statehood (Art. VII, Sec. 2, 1838 Constitution; Art. The Florida National Guard was established in 1909 (Ch. 5930, Laws) replacing the Florida State Troops. From 1921 until 1973, the Guard was placed under the Military Dept (Ch. 8502, Laws).
