Muster rolls and supporting documents, 1870-1918.

This series contains muster rolls and supporting documents of the Florida State Militia, the Florida State Troops, and the Florida National Guard. These records provide a fairly complete picture of the organization of the Florida military from the 1870s to 1918. In this 50-year period, Floridians served in two wars and a federal "expedition" into Mexico, and were called into active state duty for countless natural disasters and civil disturbances. The muster rolls in this series are the only known surviving listings of the Floridians that served in the State Militia, the State Troops, and the National Guard during this era. Of particular interest are a number of rolls for organizations which were manned and officered by blacks.
